PRIORITIES / KEY HIGHLIGHTS

• On 7 December, President Juan Manuel Santos declared the "state of economic, social and ecologic emergency due to the grave public calamity", through the Decree 4580.

• More than 1.9 million people have been affected by the emergency.

• The Government set up a Crisis Room in the Ministry of the Interior to consolidate information on the emergency and to coordinate the response.

• The main priorities in the response are in the areas of food, shelter, and access to safe water.

In Colombia: Continuous heavy rains has caused most major rivers to burst its banks causing land erosion's. Buries and swept away several homes and leaving tens of thousands of people homeless. Mr. Juan Manuel Santos, the Colombian President , who flew over to assess the damages has said: "We estimate that there will be more than two million people affected.' 'Recovering from the disaster is going to be very expensive"

Cerca de dos millones de colombianos han quedado damnificados por las torrenciales precipitaciones de las últimas semanas. Asimismo, unas 138 personas murieron, 200 se encuentran heridas y otras 20 fueron reportadas desaparecidas, debido a los desbordamientos, inundaciones y deslizamientos de tierra.

El mandatario del país, Juan Manuel Santos, el último jueves debió decretar “calamidad pública” en 28 departamentos para que, de esta forma, los afectados puedan “recibir ayuda y distribuirla con más efectividad y más eficiencia”.
